Version 8

This web page will be updated with information about the newest version of Solo (Version 8). The most recent revision of Version 8 was updated on 4/25/2006. Additional information is described below.

What is Version 8 ?

In 2004 a major upgrade for the DOL regulations was announced. It means new notices and new procedures. This isn't just a few edits and minor tweaks, these are all new requirements. We have also provided new COBRA Procedures for you to follow.

The new regulations are effective with plan years effective 11/26/04 forward. So, for example, if you renew on 1/1/05, you are subject to the new rules at that time. It's a good idea to comply as soon as possible but, as you can see, you may have some leeway based on your plan year (typically, the same as your renewal date.)

After downloading Version 8 for the first time - What should I do before using it?

1. Your first task will be to review the new notices available in the new Solo Template Editor. You should take a look at the letters that you use and make any changes to the text if required. Each of the letters have been written to include all of the DOL requirements, but you may have custom text that needs to be changed.

2. You must review and, possibly, make edits in the Company tab in Setup. These are the only data changes that you may need to make. (If you are a COBRA TPA, you will need to review the Company tab for each customer).

-the company name, address, phone number, and fax must be completed.

-the second set of contact information on the right side of the form must be completed. The data will reflect the contact information for the company's COBRA plan administrator. (For COBRA TPAs this means your customer's plan administrator. Your information is still on the Admin Tab).

Have there been any revisions to Version 8 since it's release in November 2004?

Yes, there has been 4 revisions since it's first release on November 15th. The last revision on 4/25/2006 included enhancements that contained the new requirements for the 2005 HIPAA certificate and text changes to the COBRA Election Form.

The most recent release is Version 8 Release 5. You can identify your Version by clicking on the Help Screen while using Solo.

The last revision of Solo was released on 4/25/2006. If you have already upgraded to Version 8 and have not obtained this most recent version, we encourage you to do so to obtain the new HIPAA requirements that have been defined by the US Department of Labor for 2005.
