Installing Solo onto a network for the first time

Solo uses 2 primary data files that can be moved to a remote location such as a server or shared folder on a network.  The 2 data files are named the following:

"solodat.mde"

"sololet.mde"

(note* if you have the product "Maxim" in addition to "Solo", there is an additional data file named "solobak.mde").

The following basic instructions will assist in moving the data files and linking to the data:

1.  Once Solo is installed onto your computer using the default options make sure that you are exited out of all Solo programs.

2.  Make sure that you have a backup copy of your Solo Data Files (just a precaution):

    (1) "solodat.mde"   (your *primary data file)

    (2) "sololet.mde"   (your *primary notice file)

    (3) "solokey.mde"  (your security file)

When Solo has been installed onto a local computer using the standard default installation, the 3 data files will be found in the following default directory/folder:

   c:\Program Files\Affordable Solutions\

3.  Make sure you have a shared folder that is mapped from your computer.  Usually it will be named something like "E:" or "F:" or "Z:", etc...

If you are unsure what a "mapped" network folder is, you will need to contact your system/network administrator or the person who is responsible for your computer installations.

4.  Copy the 2 primary data files (solodat.mde and sololet.mde) to your shared folder (Windows Explorer provides easy functions to assist with your copy/paste).

5.  After you copy the 2 data files, check and make sure that you have full privileges including READ and WRITE.  You can check the read/write priviliges by using Windows Explorer and finding the data files on your shared folder and RIGHT-Click on each of the file names and select "Properties".  Once in Properties, you will see an area at the bottom of the screen that allows you to set a file as Read Only.  Make sure that box is NOT checked.

6.  Using Windows Explorer go to the "C:\Program Files\Affordable Solutions" folder and delete the 2 original data files "solodat.mde" and "sololet.mde" that have now been copied to your network folder.

7.  Next, Start Solo.

8.  You should see error messages displaying indicating that Solo can't find the data files.  Click on the selections to Continue until you see the "RELINK" screen.

If you aren't sent directly to the "ReLink" screen, Login and go to the menu bar and select "Utilities" - "RELINK".

9.  From the Relink screen, Type in the correct path and filenames for each of the 2 files and press the Relink button to run the relink.

10.  Repeat steps 7 through 9 again for the "Solo Notice Editor".

If you have Maxim installed, you will need to perform steps 7 through 9 again for Maxim.

11.  After all the applications have been relinked (and are communicating) with the data on the shared folder, you should be able to use Solo and Solo Notice Editor with the new connection.

12.  When you start Solo, you may be asked for a new Activation Key.  If so, please follow the instructions displayed when you log into Solo.  If you have installed Solo on more than one computer, each computer may require a different Activation Key.
